CHILDRENS’ BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU PROGRAM
Who are we?
The North 12 martial arts academy is the home of the CFS martial arts programs and specifically the Brazilian Jiujitsu Program dedicated to children aged 4 years to 13 years of age. We do have other options available for those who are older.
We are based in North Finchley, London and are the largest, cleanest and modern full time martial arts academy in the area.
The program is headed by World renowned martial artist Professor David Onuma. He is an 8 time European Brazilian JJ Champion, World Masters Bronze medalist, London, British and Rome national Champion. He is a 3rd Degree Black belt and also head of CFS BJJ international.
He is supported in his teaching by dedicated and passionate BJJ practitioners, hand picked and trained personally by Professor/Coach David.
Our tried and tested program is highly successful and is continually reviewed to ensure improvements can be made wherever possible.
Our aims/goal include the following:
- Promote self discipline and understand why this is important
- Develop resilience and improve both their mental and physical toughness
- Learn to work with others and be part of a team
- Develop a healthy respect for others as well as themselves
- Develop Anti- bullying skills – Learn how to defend themselves in a real and practical way
- Creating a healthy mind & Healthy body
Expectations
Your children are important to us and indeed most of the coaching staff are parents and dedicated to bringing out the best in our young members. You and your children will receive nothing less than the best we can offer.
In relation to our young members, we understand how they think, operate and behave. We have many methods of helping to keep them on track but of course we teach them from a very early stage that persistent failure to follow instructions could lead to their removal from our program as safety for all is our highest concern.
Parents & guardians must also understand that whilst the classes are on, the coaches are in charge and thus they should not interfere with the smooth running of any class or they too may be asked to leave.
Are there any risks of injury?
Martial arts by its very nature involves contact, and as such carries the risk of accidental injuries. We do our best to minimize this by using safe practices, but the occasional bump or bruise may happen over any given period of time.
Glofox – Management and booking App
All of our memberships are managed through our app, called Glofox. It securely houses your card details, helps you book classes and manages your child’s account generally.
Booking classes are essential as it tells us exactly who is coming to class and allows us to manage the classes and teaching resources.
Membership
If your child joins our academy, then they are considered members. There are different membership packages available but they all have one thing in common. Your monthly payment secures their place. We are NOT an after school club or one that operates on a termly basis. We only close on bank holidays, Christmas or if we close for our annual holiday (normally round 2 weeks).
We do allow a membership to be paused (upon application) for a maximum of 2 weeks in any 12 month period. Parents are free to cancel their child’s membership giving one month’s notice and thus in a worst case scenario, they may have only one further month’s payment to make.
What happens if my child misses class(es)?
We are often asked what the position is if a child misses one or more of their classes (whether it be through illness or any other reason. This is entirely normal and part of everyday life.
The credit system exists to allow you to book your child in for their class or classes each week. For those attending once a week, we give 5 credits to allow for those uneven months. It does not in itself mean that your child is entitled to 5 classes per month. Think of it as one class per week. The same applies if your child is training 2 times per week, as 10 credits will be allocated simply to allow for the uneven months and different membership start dates.
If your child missed a class, the credits do not roll over to the next month. The main reason for this is that most of the classes are full and so it would not ordinarily be possible to add another child to another fully subscribed class. You should also be aware that ordinarily at each childrens class, there will be 2 or more instructors, and 2 or more supporting staff at reception. So even if your child misses a class, our commitment to these valuable resources still remains.
We have waiting lists for the 4-6 and 7-13 programs as places are very much in demand.
Insurance
We hold insurance with Towergate who are one of the leading insurers for martial arts academy. A yearly fee is paid by each member (currently £30). This is member to member insurance. This means that in the unlikely or unfortunate event that your child injures another, and the parent or guardians of that child decides to take legal action, then the insurance kicks in and legal representation will be provided. Insurance is only available from the age of 4.
Gradings & Promotions
We follow the International Brazilian Jiujitsu (IBJJF) guidelines regarding the grading of children.
Promotions are based on the following criteria:
- Attendance (how often)
- Skill
- Attitude & Behaviour
Each belt starts without any stripes and up to 3 stripes can be awarded before the child is eligible for their next belt.
Uniform
Each child is required to wear a Kimono (Gi) which is purchase upon joining.
